Case Study
In 2007 Alex, following a distressing family breakdown, came to Nextstep for Housing Options advice. At the time it was felt that Hillbrook House would be the best option for him as he had just turned 17 with no experience of living away from home. Alex lived at Hillbrook House for two years receiving extensive support with basic life skills and encouragement to continue his studying at college. He also engaged with Heads Together to address his emotional needs. For the last six months of his stay, Nextstep resumed their support concentrating on the challenges faced living in the private sector as opposed to a supported housing scheme. Suitable accommodation was secured and Nextstep along with a Hillbrook House Support Worker have continued to support Alex who is managing the tenancy well. He has recently passed his course at college, is actively looking for work and has rebuilt relationships with his family. He has made many friends and is now a much happier person.
