Skills for Life
In order to bring lasting change to the lives of the vulnerable young people who arrive at Hillbrook House, we offer a range of services to help them develop the personal qualities needed to thrive within the community.
For young people who may lack supportive family and positive role models, and whose experience of life so far may have left them with a feeling of worthlessness, addressing these issues whist they are still in a safe and supportive setting is crucial, before they become marginalised from society. With no qualifications or hope of a job and nothing to occupy their time, the route towards addictions, anti-social or offending behaviour threatens.
SMART Media Suite
The SMART Media Suite allows young people to express themselves creatively and is the only centre of its kind in the local area. Not all young people have access to digital equipment or even a computer whereas our centre boasts equipment and software to make films and animation, create graphic and web design, edit photos as well as complete college assignments, search for jobs and put together a CV.
Steps Ahead (delivered in partnership with Surrey Care Trust)
A new, exciting programme of personal development for 16-18 year olds. Delivered in 3, 4-week sections with learners able to stay until they secure work, training or education opportunity. It is delivered 3 days a week with an extra 2 days for 1:1 support and work placements. Learners work towards an accredited qualification whilst building skills for the future.
Section 1 Personal Development Skills Life Skills
Section 2 Preparation for Employment Skills Getting work
Section 3 Sustainability Employment Skills Keeping a job
There is opportunity to work as part of a team and build on previous knowledge and experience. Steps Ahead is a learner led programme that gives individuals the chance to develop a unique course that is delivered at their own pace. This is crucial for overcoming barriers to learning that young people may have if they struggled at school.
