Helping young people build their future

We support young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing safe, secure and affordable housing when they need it.
Hillbrook House gives young people somewhere to stay. Each resident receives advice and support and access to a range of services. Whatever brings young people to this point we can help them address those issues and move on.NextStep helps local people fund the deposit needed for private rented accommodation.
Skills for Life offers a range of opportunities for personal development. Connexions PA’s provides support to young people on any issue that affects them from housing, to careers to personal development. Our SMART media suite gives young people a chance to be creative and is also useful for college assignments, job search and preparing CV’s. Steps Ahead is a new programme to help vulnerable young people develop skills for life, getting work and keeping a job. It is learner led, so young people can develop a unique course delivered at a pace that suits them. For the Inner Journey Project, young people raise funds to go to South Africa on a journey of personal development.

Every night over 7,200 young people stay at a YMCA. 80 young people were welcomed through the doors of Hillbrook House in 2008. |
Hillbrook residents can also access Heads Together, our youth counselling service to help them overcome issues such as abuse, family or relationship issues, self-esteem or bullying.

Case Study Laura, aged 19, was sexually abused by her step-father but when she told her family, it was Laura that was thrown out. |
|
Thanks to generous funding from Surrey Primary Care Trust we have hosted Mindful, a new service that offers free consultation and training to young people on their mental and emotional health.
