Park 2 Ark Sponsored Walk

On Sunday 1st August, 40 people took part in the YMCA’s first ever inclusive challenge to raise funds for our local community projects. Disabled and non-disabled people together travelled the full 8 miles from Reigate’s Priory Park to Arkle Manor – and back again – with a stop at the Jolly Farmers on route for refreshments!! All 40 participants completed the challenge event and were presented with medals.
Participants included Nik Jessop and his Fiancée Sarah, both wheelchair users, who completed a personal challenge to do the full 8 miles unassisted. Christopher Myers, one of our volunteers, himself a wheelchair user, completed the route supported by his dad, Paul.
David Pickstock, another disabled participant said, “This is what the YMCA is all about – everyone pulling together and helping each other and raising money for a good cause as well.”
Rita Wright, YMCA’s Fit for Life Co-ordinator, who organised the event said – “the atmosphere was amazing, there were some people who were really struggling, but the spirit of the whole group carried them though.” The event raised £1,000 with donations still coming in – and people want to do it again next year!!
