Fun Run 2010

It’s official; it was the wettest Fun Run since records began! But that didn’t stop over 600 children and 450 adults wade through the course with spirits high! Kingston runner Ron Taylor took the Adult 5 Mile in a top time of 29:52 closely followed by Reigate Priory runner Max Smithson in second place with 30:22, just behind on 30:36 saw Stragglers runner Declan Flynn finishing third. Reigate Priory AC runner, Rachel Bennett did the ladies proud with a winning time of 31:12, followed by Earslwood School teacher Phillipa Mason running a time of 32:15 in third place, Reigate Priory runner Natalie Wilson coming in on 32:52.
Once again, the children were inspirational and some quite exceptional performances were seen in all age categories. The rain didn’t stop anyone as the younger children armed with raincoats and mums and dads took on the mile course and all finishing with heads held high. Another big turnout from all local schools with runners from Brambletye, Holmesdale, Reigate Paris and Wray Common to name but a few with Earlswood School this year entering over 80 pupils and staff! It’s wonderful to see so many young people smash the theory that children are not active anymore, they certainly proved that and who knows, we may see some of you in London 2012 and beyond!
Well done to all of our Race Starters, which included Cllr Richard Mantle, the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, RRYMCA Chairman, Mr Chris Brewer, Mr Tim Hazell of Reigate and Banstead Sports Council, Vines of Redhill representative, Lee Wildish , RRYMCA President, Mrs Penelope Horsfall, Cllr Adam de Save and Frank le Duc from the Surrey Mirror.
A big thank you to our sponsors, Mr Chris Brewer who has supported us since the Fun Run began and Simply Sports providing us with vouchers for all of our race winners. A big welcome and thank you to this year’s new sponsors, Vines of Redhill and the Surrey Mirror, it was great to have you all on board and we couldn’t do it without you. And couldn’t finish without an enormous thank you to all of our volunteers, over 60 of you, who persevered throughout the day ensuring the day ran as smoothly as possible, you were all wonderful, thank you.
Look forward to seeing you all on 1st May 2011!
