Friendship and fun!
We are delighted to announce the launch of a new Buddy scheme to support young people with disabilities to take part in leisure activities. Volunteer buddies aged 16 or over will support children and young people aged 11-19 years, living in East Surrey, to enjoy their chosen activities.
Young people may need help in attending an organised sports or leisure club or may just want a friend to help them enjoy shopping, hanging out in a coffee shop or going for a meal, things that all teenagers enjoy. Regular events for young people and their buddies, such as a summer BBQ or Christmas party or trip out to a theme park, will be also be arranged.
Our newly appointed scheme Co-ordinator will liaise with young people and their families to find out what social activities they would like to be involved in and what support they require, with the ultimate aim that young people will be able to attend activities independently.
The scheme started in April 2010 anyone who is interested in the scheme should contact John Brunswick on 01737 784970 or 01737 779 979 you can also email John Brunswick.
Young people or their parents can refer themselves directly or local agencies can refer young people they think will benefit from the scheme. Please download the v.buddies form and return the completed form to John Brunswick at the YMCA Sports and Community Centre. If you are interested in volunteering as a buddy please click here or download the application form and return the completed form to John Brunswick.
| We are delivering this project on behalf of Surrey County Council, after successfully bidding to provide this exciting and innovative buddying service that is funded from the Aiming High for Disabled Children, short breaks programme. |
