Reigate and Redhill YMCA

Ian Burks

We welcome you to the Reigate and Redhill YMCA. We provide “YMCA fitness” and “Programme Activities”, for people of all ages, in the community of Reigate and Redhill.

The YMCA's work with children and young people encompasses the Boilerhouse After-school Care Club, where children are picked up from local schools and looked after at the centre until their parents come for them; Holiday Playschemes for 5 to 12 year olds every school holiday; Sports Camp have been introduced for children aged 8 to 13, Saturday Funhouse club; and a range of sport and leisure activities.

We run a counselling and information services for young people called “Heads Together” and are involved in a number of local youth provision initiatives, including “Hillbrook House” in Redhill our accommodation project for young people opening in January 2005 and the “NextStep“ Rent deposit scheme and “NightStop”. We run various activities for Under 12's at the Earlswood centre. We started a three-year “Millenium Volunteers” project for young people in September 1999, and have secured extended funding to work until 2005, which will work with young people throughout East Surrey to enable them to get involved in volunteering opportunities.

The YMCA's health and fitness club - redeveloped and launched in May 1995 as “New Dimensions Health and Fitness” and has had an extension built and been refurbished in November 2003 - “YMCA fitness” has some of the best facilities and teachers around. The extended gym boasts free weights and a superb range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment, including some designed for use by disabled as well as non-disabled members. YMCA fitness includes a sauna, sunbed, créche and more than 40 exercise classes every week, as well as Fitness Assessment, personal programming and sports injuries consultancy.

A wide choice of sport and leisure activities for all ages (children to senior citizens) is available, from basketball to yoga, short mat bowls to karate and football to angling. We offer facilities for conferences, training sessions and meetings and run children's parties for members and other local people. User groups include RNIB, Surrey Oaklands, Ashcroft Care, M/S Society, Dyscover, Age Concern, Reigate Grammar School, Reigate College as well as a number of charitable groups, companies and businesses. Local people with learning or physical difficulties or recovering from illness are catered for through our “Fit for Life” scheme.

There has been a YMCA working to meet the needs of local young people and others in the Reigate and Redhill area for over 100 years. The current centre, off Prince's Road in Redhill, opened in 1992 as a purpose-built community and sports centre. It offers a superb range of sports, leisure and Childcare opportunities and facilities for all in our local communities and is accessible throughout to disabled people.
